Anthony E. Beebe, Ph.D., Ed.D. has been both an instructor and an administrator during his nearly 30 years in higher education. Dr. Beebe is currently Superintendent-President of Santa Barbara City College, which has been formally acknowledged as one of the top community colleges in the country.
Prior to coming to Santa Barbara City College, Dr. Beebe was President of San Diego City College, a large, highly diverse urban campus located in the heart of downtown San Diego. In March of 2016, Dr. Beebe was recognized at the “People’s President” for his community work and service in Barrio Logan, one of the oldest neighborhoods in San Diego.
Prior to becoming President of San Diego City College, Anthony served eight years as President of the San Diego Continuing Education (SDCE), also part of the San Diego Community College District and one of the largest separately accredited institutions of its kind in the nation. SDCE serves more than 50,000 students each year from six comprehensive campuses and 300 community and neighborhood sites. One of the hallmarks of Dr. Beebe’s service has been his efforts to establish non-credit to credit pathways, building enrollments at the credit colleges.
Before joining the San Diego Community College District, Dr. Beebe served as Vice President of Instruction and Student Services for Yakima Valley Community College (Washington), where he was named the college’s administrator of the year after his first 12 months of service. Previously, Dr. Beebe spent two years as Associate Vice President of Instruction for Workforce Development at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon.
In 1997, Dr. Beebe directed the Community Education program at Riverside Community College overseeing fee-based programs. From 1998-2001, he was the founding dean of Riverside Community College’s “Open Campus.” There, he supported faculty and staff in the development of the District’s online classes, assessment of the public safety academy for the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, and helped establish “Riverside Community Online.”
Dr. Beebe began his career in higher education in 1988 as a business and management professor, first teaching for Southern Oregon State College (Ashland, OR), then for Portland Community College, and finally for Marylhurst University, also in Portland, Oregon. Prior to this, Dr. Beebe was a full-time paid fire fighter for Douglas County Fire District #1 (Oregon) and then as a training officer on an army base in Saudi Arabia.
Anthony earned a Doctor of Education degree from Oregon State University, an MBA from California State University, Sacramento, a Bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Oregon in Eugene, and an Associate’s degree from Lane Community College, also in Eugene.
