Foundation for Santa Barbara City College Distributes Over $500,000 in Awards to Students For 2007-2008 School Year

Over 600 students will receive scholarships at Santa Barbara City College this Friday

On Friday, May 11, Santa Barbara City College and the Foundation for Santa Barbara City College will host a scholarship reception in which students are awarded scholarships for the coming school year.   Last year, 630 students received $535,000 of support for books, tuition, supplies and other expenses. Through these gifts, donors are helping them pursue their dreams of a college education. Scholarships remain among the most important ways for the Foundation for Santa Barbara City College and its donors to encourage student success. They relieve financial burden, offer inspiration and validate the importance of education.

Over 400 students and their families are expected to attend this ceremony in the Student Services Patio on the Main Campus. Scholarships are funded by various individuals and organizations throughout the community. They very greatly in their focus and qualifying criteria, but each gift helps a student achieve his or her educational or vocational goal. Recipients range from university-bound students to ESL students to single-parent students. Field s of study offering aid include: nursing, art, culinary arts, earth sciences, graphic design, early childhood education, political science, marine technology, etc.
