SBCC Names Entrepreneurial Program for James D. Scheinfeld
At the October 18th meeting of The Board of Trustees of the Santa Barbara City College District, the Trustees voted unanimously to name the Entrepreneurship and Business Innovation Program as the James D. Scheinfeld Entrepreneurship and Business Innovation Program.
Through a family trust, Mr. Scheinfeld has established a permanent endowment to support the Entrepreneurship and Business Innovation Program at Santa Barbara City College (EBIP). The purpose of the newly-named James D. Scheinfeld EBIP is to encourage and support the development of new businesses, promote entrepreneurship and assist existing businesses in Santa Barbara. This will be accomplished through a combination of credit and noncredit courses, seminars, workshops and individual business consulting at the College.
James D. Scheinfeld is a dedicated and generous supporter of Santa Barbara City College as a Board Member of the Foundation for SBCC since 1989, serving as its Chairman from 1996 to 2000. Mr. Scheinfeld co-chaired the 21st Century campaign from 1990 to 1996, raising more than $25 million for College programs and facilities. He has been a generous contributor to the College with gifts totaling over $2 million, supporting numerous academic programs and student services. Originally from Milwaukee,Wisconsin, Mr. Scheinfeld has had a long and successful career as a businessman and entrepreneur, forming several companies. He moved to Santa Barbara upon his retirement in 1985. He has been actively involved with local organizations and charities ever since.
Barbara Ben-Horin, CEO of the Foundation for SBCC, stated “Jim’s gifts to the College are motivated by a genuine regard and commitment to equal access to educational opportunity for all individuals. His generosity and thoughtfulness have inspired students, faculty staff and community leaders”.
A resolution citing Mr. Scheinfeld’s achievements, and announcing his endowment of the EICP was passed and adopted by the Board of Trustees of the Santa Barbara Community College District on October 18, 2007.
