Woodie Club Funds New Scholarship For Automotive Technology at SBCC

The Santa Barbara Woodie Club has made a $5,000 gift to fund a new scholarship for students majoring in Automotive Service and Technology.  The club met on campus on December 1, with their restored vintage cars, to present a check to The Foundation for SBCC.

The membership created this scholarship to help students in the community to succeed in a field that they are passionate about.  The Santa Barbara Woodie Club exhibits their vehicles annually at their “Woodies at the Beach” Car Show, parking on the West Campus and hosting an all day festival for enthusiasts and the public.

The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage enthusiastic and motivated Santa Barbara City College Automotive Technology students who have demonstrated financial need to complete their education and become professionals in their field. It is currently funded for a five year period, $1,000 of which will be given annually to a deserving Automotive Technology student. This scholarship is available to all students meeting eligibility requirements, which consider a student’s motivation, financial need and academic achievement (they must have a GPA of 3.0 or greater).

The Automotive Service and Technology program at Santa Barbara City College prepares students for a career in the automotive repair industry. Santa Barbara City College offers both a Certificate of Completionand an Associate of Science Degree. The certificate program can be completed in just 2-3 semesters. An Associate Degree is desirable for those interested in business management or ownership in the future. Associate Degree graduates can transfer to various university bachelor's degree programs in occupational or transportation technology. All full-time faculty members have over 20 years of teaching experience and maintain skills by attending update training regularly.

The Santa Barbara Chapter of the National Woodie Club, led by president Ron Dugger, exists to promote interest in woodies; to educate owners and the public on their history and beauty, and to provide an association through which owners and enthusiasts may exchange information. (The club recognizes wood-bodied cars of any year, make or model, restored or modified. One need not have to own a woodie to be a member).
