SBCC Selects Andreea Serban as President

The Santa Barbara City College District Board of Trustees has announced the selection of Dr. Andreea Serban as Superintendent/President of the District.Dr. Serban is currently the Vice Chancellor of Technology and Learning Services, South Orange County Community College District, Mission Viejo, California. Before working in South Orange, she was the Associate Vice President for Information Technology, Research and Planning at Santa Barbara City College.

The selection of Dr. Serban was made after an extensive national search.The Board was assisted by a search committee comprised of representatives of faculty, staff, students, the Foundation for SBCC and Santa Barbara community leaders.Finalists participated in a campus-wide public forum on March 12 in addition to being interviewed by the Board.Site visits were conducted by a team composed of the President of the Board of Trustees and the leaders of the faculty and staff unions of the college.

This position attracted some exceptional candidates, including Jack Friedlander, Ph.D., Executive Vice President, Santa Barbara City College; and Blaine Nisson, Ed.D., President, Umpqua Community College, Roseburg, Oregon.

Final action to appoint Dr. Serban will be taken in open session at an upcoming Board meeting when the Board will act upon a contract of employment for her. Dr. Serban will replace John Romo who is retiring effective June 30.
