Santa BarbaraCityCollege alum Giovanni Sherwyn is the chef and proprietor of Giannfranco’s Trattoria on 666 Linden Avenue in Carpinteria. Giovanni got his start in the SBCC Culinary program, which he graduated from in 1997. Following graduation from SBCC, Giovanni gained experience at Hyatt Hotels as a private chef.
While calling into this Wednesday’s “Minds That Matter” radio program, Giovanni credited the SBCC Foundation for helping him during his career at SBCC. While attending the culinary program, he was commuting daily from Thousand Oaks; the Foundation aided him by providing money for gas, supplies, books, and his knives.
When asked what advice he has for current students, Giovanni said, “You have to follow your dreams and make sure that you remember to thank those that help you out along the way.”
