Earlier this month, Visionaries Circle members gathered at the SBCC Atkinson Gallery to welcome Dr. Anthony Beebe, Santa Barbara City College’s new superintendent/president. Guests enjoyed light fare provided by the SBCC School of Culinary Arts while getting a first glimpse of the new show Los Angeles River: Urban Reclamation by renowned Los Angeles artist Devon Tsuno.
SBCC Foundation Board Chair Earl Armstrong welcomed the guests, thanking them for their Visionaries Circle membership and reminding them how important their participation is in providing necessary funds so that the foundation can continue to do its good work. Foundation CEO Geoff Green echoed Armstrong’s sentiments before discussing the foundation’s work in the community including the SBCC Promise and exciting partnerships in the downtown community, all done in service of the students and programs at SBCC. Green then welcomed Dr. Anthony Beebe, the new college superintendent/president. “At a community college, we are a bridge between so many worlds,” said Green. “Dr. Beebe understands what it means to be a part of a community and a community college. In Dr. Beebe,we have a leader who could not be better matched for who we are, what we need, and where we are going.”
Dr. Beebe discussed the uniqueness of the SBCC Promise and how compared to other Promise programs, the SBCC Promise is special because it is the only one providing two years free with textbooks and supplies included. “It is about access, and about success in the college, so that we can have that financial piece taken off the table and students who come here will not have to worry about that in any way, shape, or form,” said Dr. Beebe. “That is the type of program and philosophy I want to be associated with.”
Dr. Beebe thanked everyone for attending the event, reiterating the important role played by every donor in the room. “I feel that it is really an honor and a privilege to be in this position. I am thrilled to be here, and thrilled to get to meet with such a terrific group of donors,” said Dr. Beebe. “I think that we are making history. I know that we are going to be able to do some great things together. The foundation and college relationship is on a track that is unprecedented and the things we are working on together are absolutely extraordinary.”
By investing in the SBCC Foundation, Visionaries Circle members ensure that SBCC students have the tools they need to reach their goals and that our region’s future is bright.
