Dr. Joshua Ramirez earned his Ph.D. from U.C. Irvine’s Cognitive Sciences doctoral program. He also received his M.A. in Social Sciences and B.A. in Psychology from U.C. Irvine. Dr. Ramirez’s graduate work examined the psycholinguistic, developmental, and neurological basis of reading disabilities. For five years, he served as a pre-doctoral research fellow for the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) National Institute for Child Health and Human Development. Dr. Ramirez’s primary academic interests include speech perception, language acquisition, development, cognitive neuroscience, and visual intelligence. Dr. Ramirez previously taught at U.C. Irvine as an instructor of record, teaching associate and laboratory instructor; he also served as associate faculty for the South Orange County Community College District. He joined Santa Barbara City College’s Psychology Department on a full-time basis in Fall 2014, teaching Research Methods and Experimental Design, and General Psychology. Dr. Ramirez’s most recent service to the campus includes serving as a project director for one of SBCC’s Title V federal grants, and as Faculty Distance Education Coordinator.
