Neida Garcia has exciting plans after she graduates from SBCC in Spring 2025. After participating in the SBCC Promise for two years with all her fees, books, and supplies covered, she will transfer to Cal State Fullerton to pursue her BA in psychology. After that, she intends to earn a master’s degree.
What are some of your favorite aspects of SBCC?
I have enjoyed every aspect of SBCC. I love the strong community on campus, including the kind faculty and many brilliant students. I often find myself in one of two places—the library, and the cozy offices of EOPS (Extended Opportunities Programs and Services) where I talk with advisors and counselors who have been so helpful in guiding me in my next steps. I also enjoy the views of the ocean and mountains when I’m walking to class.
How has the SBCC Promise helped you in your educational journey?
I am a first-generation college student who has faced many hardships. One thing I have learned is that people have their personal definitions of success, and I consider myself to be extremely successful. I am proud to be where I am, knowing that I will be transferring to a four-year university because of my hard work.
I am thankful to be enrolled in the SBCC Promise. During my last year of high school, like most seniors, I was unsure about where I would go next. This was a tough decision, and it was based on what college I could afford to attend. The SBCC Promise has helped a lot, allowing me attend for two years for free and making college affordable.
What have been some of your favorite classes and/or teachers at SBCC?
My favorite classes have been the psychology classes with professors Gina Bell, George Ayoub, Spencer Sherman, and Joshua Ramirez. Some of my other favorite classes have been with Stephanie Mendes.
What are your plans for the future?
I plan to graduate in 2027 from CSU Fullerton, and then pursue a master’s degree in psychology. Of course, I don’t know exactly where I will be in the future, but I do know that SBCC will have been an important part of my journey toward achieving my goals.
