Rachel Johnson originally hails from Toronto, ON, where she earned her M.A. in Art History before heading to UCSB for a doctorate in the same field. After transitioning from academia into the non-profit sector, she worked for two years at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art as their Grants Manager, while also dabbling and excelling in event management, annual fund, major gifts, donor stewardship, and strategic planning. Her love of art and art history found a happy home in the art world, but her move to Santa Barbara City College coupled that love with her passion for education and the challenges and diversity of an exciting academic environment once again.

Rachel’s mission for her work is rooted in social justice and educational equity, priorities shared by the Foundation for SBCC and Santa Barbara City College more broadly. When she’s not seeking grant funding for the College’s myriad programs and community collaborations, she’s volunteering with Girls Inc. of Greater Santa Barbara, The Fund for Santa Barbara, hiking our local trails, training for her next fitness competition, or planning her next international trip. Rachel is an alumni of the Leading from Within Emerging Leaders Program and an active member of the Santa Barbara/Ventura chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
