Susan Silver, along with her husband Howard, moved to Santa Barbara 10 years ago from northern New Jersey.

Susan obtained her BA from Boston University, a Masters in Clinical Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis and a MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

She began her professional career as a psychotherapist and upon obtaining her MBA, started a business running workshops on a range of topics for employees of corporations in the New York tri state area. She additionally started working in conflict resolution with partners of businesses that did not get along.

Susan has been a lifelong volunteer. She was on the board and later president of the Friends in Hospice (first hospice in NJ), a board member and two-term president of the Mental Health Association of Essex Country, a board member of The Healthcare Foundation of NJ and a board member of Partners for Care, also in NJ. She sat on the Governor’s Council of Mental Health for the state of NJ.

Since living in Santa Barbara, Susan has run parenting workshops for Girls, Inc. and served on the board of Antioch College. She is a mediator in the Santa Barbara court system and was a member of the 2023 Search committee for the new President/Superintendent at SBCC.

She is a mother of two grown children and two grown stepchildren. She is a metalsmith and jewelry designer and a watercolor artist.
