The SBCC Foundation launched the SBCC Promise in fall 2016, providing all local high school graduates with the opportunity to attend SBCC full-time free of charge, for up to two years. By removing financial barriers, the SBCC Promise is making our community’s college fully accessible to all local students who are willing to make the necessary commitments. The SBCC Promise relies entirely on private donations.
Important message for SBCC Promise students:
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused many students to put college on hold. If you graduated from high school in southern Santa Barbara county during the pandemic and postponed college, or if you were an SBCC Promise student during this time and put college on hold, we want you back!
In keeping with our commitment to increase college access, this fall the SBCC Foundation will be welcoming back all Promise students whose academic journeys were temporarily halted due to COVID-19. No questions asked.
The SBCC Promise is revolutionary; it is comprehensive (covers tuition and all required fees, books and supplies), robust (covers two full academic years, including summer sessions), and open access (not restricted based on means or past academic performance). Eligibility is determined by a student’s high school location, year of graduation, and commitment to SBCC Promise eligibility requirements. Research on college achievement correlates a student’s chance of success in college with early enrollment, full-time student status, and access to academic counseling and support. The SBCC Promise is designed and built on these elements.
